We had our second orientation meeting yesterday (Sunday, March 26). The kids learned about what kind of suitcase to bring and how much to pack. So we will be looking for a 54" inch suitcase with wheels and weighing to make sure we are under the 44 lb. weight limit. They suggested when spring cleaning not to throw away old panties and socks, let the kids wear them and then toss each day. (this making it lighter and of course leaving more room in the suitcase to bring things home) They also were given the assignment to wash a pair of jeans, khaki's, and a shirt in their bathroom sink and time how long it takes to dry and how much water drips out. They were told to really make sure they ring out the clothes. Kaitlyn's face was priceless, but that may be all they have if they want something clean to wear. I'll have her let you know how that goes!
When they have a 2 day hotel stay they may get to use their facilities, but only washing what is really necessary considering there will be 4 leaders and 40 kids. The leaders also said that the home stay families usually will take pitty on the kids and will allow them to wash their clothes.
The kids also separated up into groups of four and had to make a list of rules and consequences for the their group and the trip. They really did a pretty good job. It will be compiled for each to sign at the next meeting.
They also talked about the Science projects to make sure the kids were working with each other as a team to have it ready by the next meeting. Kaitlyn has been working really hard and just needs to write her information on the board. Thank you Ms. Jodi for cutting her titles for her, they look great. Also, on the list to complete is the required tests (3). She has to score a 100 on each to go. Oh, and they have to bring their report cards in to be reviewed by the leaders. I am not worried as Kaitlyn has been keeping her grades above a 93 all year as agreed.
