My Newspaper Interview
On March 23, 2012, Ms. Terry Sand (the person who interviewed me from Lawrenceville Patch) met my mom and me at the Burger King near Discover Mills. When we went inside she asked where we wanted to sit. We chose a spot near the corner of the restaurant out of the way and kind of quiet. She told me that I have to speak my answers aloud instead of nodding because she will be recording the interview, and she does not want to miss anything. We started the interview with my name, how I spell it and the school I go. She wrote it down in her notebook. She asked what the program was based on the information that my mom gave her before we actually met face to face. I told her what I knew about the program. She also asked me how I was nominated. I told her that it was done anonymously and I won’t ever know and didn’t want to know. She asked, “How many people did you have to beat out or how many people were nominated.” I told her that I know neither of the answers to the questions except that I was accepted to be a part of this wonderful opportunity and program. Then she asked what the program meant to me? I answered this: “It means a better future for the rest of us. This will help decide what I want to do in the future. This will help us learn to have peace in the world for the rising generation. This program will also allow me to be better prepared for the future.” She next asked, “What are you doing to earn your tuition? I told her that I am doing the following: baking, making chocolates, car washes, and doing fundraisers with other delegates. For some of the questions I answered with a shake of my head and she then said that she couldn’t hear the shaking of the head. I then answered with a yes. She asked me what my mom has done to help. I told her that she has helped with everything. She has taught me how to bake and make candy chocolates. She is kind, loving, supportive and thoughtful of my future!! She finally asked, “Are you very excited?” I told her that I was very, very excited!!! She asked me if the face that I was making was my happy and excited face. I was smiling like crazy and I was kind of laughing. I answered YES!!! She asked me if she could take a picture of me. She then took a picture of me alone and then one with my mom and me together. She said thank you and we said thank you and then we both left. She also sponsored a stuffed toy bunny for the “Make a Senior Smile” project I was working on with Lauren Butera.
Jewelry Party
On March 17,2012 I had my Jewelry Party. We served cream cheese cookies, banana muffins, and tortilla chips for people to snack on while they looked at the jewelry. Ms. Jenny Baldwin (my hostess) had to come to my home early to set up the table with the jewelry and to tell me what I am suppose to do. When everyone arrived Jenny had them go to the table of jewelry and pick their favorite piece and take it to their seat. After all the guests arrived I introduced myself and explained about the People to People Program and what I will be doing over in Australia. Next, Ms. Jenny introduced herself and what she does as a Premier Jeweler Hostess. When she was done everyone else introduced themselves, how they knew me, and what piece they brought back with them to their seat and she explained what it was. Ms. Jenny played a game that involved the ladies purses or pocket books. Ms. Jenny would say a letter and wait for the first person to pull something out of their bag that began with the letter that she told everyone. It was fun watching everyone think and look fast for that object. Then, she would explain what that letter means in Premier Jewelry and give them a raffle ticket to see if they would win a prize at the end of the party. She gave everyone a survey about something (did not see it) to complete and then turn it into her. Ms. Jenny let everyone look back at the jewelry and the order book to see if they wanted anything. I had so much fun at the party.
Jewelry Party
When everyone left and the jewelry was packed up Ms. Jenny added up all the orders and filled out a form that said what I made at my party. I made $207.75 to go toward my tuition. Then, my aunt stayed a little while to help me pick out what I wanted in my earned free jewelry to raffle off for Mother’s Day. I am so glad that I had a chance to do a Jewelry Party. Thank you for the people who came to my party and/or ordered jewelry.
