Make a Senior Smile for Easter

Make a Senior Smile for Easter

making and filling in names

(March 31, 2012)  Lauren Butera and I worked on a project to make senior citizens smile for Easter.  We prepared to pass out bunnies to the residents at the senior citizen home.  First, I had to get people to sponsor them.  Then, I had to go and buy the bunnies from the store.  In addition, I had to sign the names of the family that sponsored the bunny.  After filling out the cards my mom tied the ribbons onto the notecards and my sister helped me tie the notecards to the bunnies arm.  I had so much fun doing this project for the residents at Life Care Center of Gwinnett senior citizen home.

(March 31, 2012) Lauren and I met at Life Care Center of Gwinnett at 2:00 p.m. today to pass out bunnies for Easter to the residents living there.  I really wanted to go.  I had a total of 32 bunnies and Lauren had a total of 50 bunnies.  Lauren brought two of her friends to help out.  When we went in we had to wait for the person who was going to help us get started.  When she came, she told all of us that we could pass them out at the Bingo game, but it was postponed for another 5-10 minutes.  She then told us that while we waited we could go around and pass the bunnies out to the residents that are awake in their rooms or in the halls.  She said that if they are sleeping to not go in and disturb them.  Next, she said that if they wanted to interact with us to feel free to talk with them.  So we started at the hall just before the dining room.  On the way down we handed a bunny to a nice lady and she said that she was going to go right now to take it to her room.  When she was walking down the hallway she was singing a song about the bunny.  She was making it hop all the way to her room.  Another lady sitting in the hall that had received a bunny from one of Lauren’s friends was very kind to us, but my mom stopped us because she wanted to talk to all of us instead of just one.  So we stopped and went back and talked for a minute or two.  On another hall this lady after receiving her bunny she could not stop smiling.  There were many rooms that we handed out a bunny but the roommate was sleeping so we decided to leave one on their bed for when they woke up.  We didn’t want to leave anyone out.  On a different hallway I gave a bunny to two ladies.  A guy that was visiting them called me over to him.  He gave me a THANK YOU! Card that said thanks for doing a kind service.  I told him thank you and Have a Very Happy Easter!  When Lauren’s father went into a room the lady wanted to see the faces that were giving the bunnies to her.  When we went in she told us that she would always remember us.  She asked us what our names were and our ages. We all told her them.  Then, she said that she will always cherish this moment and she will always remember the faces that gave her the bunny.  In a different room I gave a bunny to this lady and when I walked out she started to talk to it and make it hop all around.  I was sooo happy!!!!
At some parts I was about to cry because of the power that these residents had inside of them and the happiness they brought with them everywhere they went, and the happiness that we brought them when they received the bunny with the special note inside.  I was just overpowered by the amount of warm and happy feelings that I was having at the same time.  I loved the time that I spent making the residents of the senior home happy and have joy. I am also glad that Lauren, her friends, and I had a chance to make their day.
